The Sound Canvas Pipe Organ Project is a collection of softwares, running in Windows 95/98, containing inside the sysex instructions to recreate on your Sound Canvas the true sounds of a pipe organ.

These programs realize also all the organ features like stop changes, keyboard coupling, tremolo, assignable memories, and even more options like change temperaments, choose different reverbs. All these features can be managed while you are playing, by using your keyboard's keys like a true organ console.

The quality of the organ sounds we have obtained can easily be evaluated by hearing the MP3 files in the SCPOP Archive , or if you have a Roland Sound Canvas by directly playing the midi files.

These programs have been designed for live playing, but in the software packages there are also detailed instructions on how to record your performances by any sequencer. Cakewalk users are particularly advantaged because we give template files specialized for this sequencer, that are also very helpful to prepare sequences of organ music.

What do you need to run SCPOP ?

A Real hardware Sound Canvas module.

The SCPOP project is not sponsorized by Roland. A Sound Canvas was the MIDI synth the author owned when first had the idea of this project in 1997. We used the Sound Canvas hardware features to its extreme limits, in such a way that is IMPOSSIBLE to run SCPOP on every other midi module except real hardware Sound Canvas. If you have doubt with your hardware please look at the Hardware Compatibility List in the FAQ page.

The programs are conceived for systems with two keyboards and a pedalboard (the typical electronic organ console) but can be configured to play also with two, or even only one, mute keyboards. The program management capabilities fit the different needs of the different configurations.

During the development of this project, started in 1997, we have prepared different softwares, more or less specialized for the different families of the Sound Canvas modules. You can download trial versions having all the program features enabled, but not all the sounds available, such as to allow you to completely evaluate the program, and also have some fun with the sounds!

SCPOP release 98 needs instead at least a SC-88 synth engine, like 88ST, 88VL, 88Pro, 880, and also MGS-64, etc... It is the more tested and easy to use version of SCPOP.

SCPOP version 2000 is actually the top concerning organ sound quality and freedom of stops choice. Although it is still compatible with SC-88, due to its high polyphony demand it works at its best only with the SC-8850.
