...Visiting Formentelli's latest works in March, 2001 (4)
During afternoon, Formentelli
organized a fast visit to two near latest works.. a new nice
little organ, and impressive restoration of a great 1800 organ
form G.Sona in Valeggio sul Mincio (MN)
Now you can see the first ... a little marvel.. is a 2-keyboard and pedal complete organ, with Bassi and Soprani stops . This, following italian style (Serassi, Antegnati) allows you to play different sounds wiht left and right and, obtaining good effects , like more keyboards.. |
|
B. Formentelli shows us coloured
and richness sonds of this nice organ.. the instruments was buid
following rules and restrictions due to ancient church abside in which it
is posed.
On left side of II keyboard, you can see the effect of mechanical pedal to II coupling.. a Key is low, forced from pedal. Key coupling is "Cassetto" kind. Key is moved to front/back to enable/disable keyboard coupling. Formentelli great capability to create mechanical traction allows you a great touch and feeling. |
|
Here you can see the particular architecture of this nice instrument. First keybard is divided on two sides, left and right ; player is posed.between. Upper part is II keyboard. On rear part, Pedalboard pipes are out of the organ box. This strange allocation is a constraint to leave ancent church walls free. When you play, you can open the wooden panels of I keyobard to have more sound. |

Here you can see beatiful left and right I keyobard organ bodies. Tromboncini and Flauto a Camino are really colored and nice sound stops. | |
Never I want leave this little masterpiece..it sounds strongly or soft as you want. Few stops, well-posed make this instrument capabel to perform many kinds of different styles.. 1800 Italian Organ G.Sona Now we visited a great restoration : 2-keyboards G.B. Sona, 50 stops organ (1800 age) on Valeggio sul Mincio. This is an italian '800 style example... organ has a Principale 16' on central view, and two rare and interesting side views with Tromboni 8' .. I never see and historical organ with great reeds on first view. The instrument is covered with original 3 great blue curtains. These must be manually moved up when you want play! On right keyboard side there is little first keybard Positivo. You cannot imagine how it sounds with Plenums and many Reeds... at your own risk... Pedal is complete but the pedals have half-lenght , so they must be played only with foot front part. Formentelli says.. "So musician played.. so you must play today !" I tried and it is quite easy.. :-) |
|
A strange view... Reeds are the first row pipes. Really interesting... |
|
This is the central 16' View.. see little reeds behind Prinicipale 16'.... reeds shows us the stop richness of this istrument. White spots are due to bats (!!!) |

|
Here you can see a interesting "Campanelli" (Bells) Stops.. this stops is really a joke! And it sound over your head.. |
|
And , finally, we see MANTICERIE (Air pumps) that provides costant and low pressure (70 mm hg) for instrument...
